Denatured Ethanol

(INCI Declaration: Alcohol Denat., CAS Number: 64-17-5) Denatured ethanol is pure ethyl alcohol that has been blended with legally defined denaturants to ensure it cannot be consumed. These additives allow the product to be used safely and responsibly in duty-relieved technical applications. Kimia supplies a full range of denatured ethanol grades to suit different industries and regulatory needs.

FAQ's

What’s the difference between the different denaturant types?

TSDA (Trade Specific Denatured Alcohol) is formulated for specialist applications such as cosmetics, personal care and fragrances. Kimia primarily supplies TSDA 1, which is the most commonly-used grade for these sectors.

IDA (Industrial Denatured Alcohol) is a versatile denatured ethanol used across healthcare, laboratory and general industrial applications. It contains defined denaturants that ensure it is not suitable for consumption, while keeping it practical for processes such as cleaning, extraction, coatings and chemical manufacturing. All Kimia IDA grades meet the required UK and EU controls.

CDA (Completely Denatured Alcohol) is ethanol that has been fully denatured using a standardised blend of additives, making it safe and suitable for widespread technical use. Kimia supplies CDA grades in line with current UK and EU specifications.

Can I get a different TSDA grade?

Other TSDA formulations can be supplied on request, ensuring customers have access to the right option for their specific regulatory or formulation needs.

Can you supply a bespoke denatured grade?

In many cases, yes we can. As denaturants are subject to application requirements and local regulatory approvals, we are happy to work with you to understand any specific needs and assist in identifying suitable options, where feasible.
